Ryan and I have been married for (almost) four years. In those years we have enjoyed living in Salt Lake City, Utah and filling our time with themed dates, sushi, movie nights, work, traveling, homework, and other fun newly wed excitement. In May of 2012 Ryan was accepted to Southern Utah University and I had signed my second year teaching contract and was accepted into the Masters program at the University of Utah. So many great and exciting things were happening for us! The only problem? These schools were 251.9 miles apart.
We had a huge decision to make. And as most of you know, we decided to live apart for a year... a year. This took a huge leap of faith, many road trips, countless facetime sessions, and endless amounts of phone calls and text messages (thank goodness for technology).
I'm not going to lie. This last year has been hard. But luckily we are both surrounded by family and friends in both places who have helped make this transition so much easier. Ryan and I have truly grown closer together and have realized how much we appreciate each other. We will never take our every day life together for granted & will appreciate each moment we spend together.
We had so many different plans for this next year. First I was going to move to southern Utah and be with Ryan. Then Ryan was going to move to Salt Lake to be with me. Then we were going to apply and move to Saudi Arabia, China, or the UK. But as of recently we have both accepted jobs in St. George, Utah. This is taking an even larger leap of faith for us. We will be moving to a place where we know little to nothing and we will be far from family and friends.
On Tuesday I will pack up my car, say goodbye to family and friends, say goodbye to familiar places, and say goodbye to my students. It will be a tearful goodbye.
But if I have learned anything this past year it's that as long as I have Ryan we will be fine, better than fine, we will be happy.
So proud of you! I love you guys! You're going to rock Dixie. And I'm going crash on your couch all the time.
ReplyDeleteSo, two comments in one day from me. What, what?! This one is to let you know that I just checked, and yep, I miss you.
ReplyDeleteI remember saying goodbye to some friends at Liberty Park and bawling the whole way back to pack our house. Driving away was so hard!! Good luck in St. George!! If you're ever in AZ, let me know!
