Hemangioma Update

This happy guy is handling his medication so well and it is making us so happy!
He is currently on a very small dose of a medication called Propralonol and takes it every 8 hours. He has to eat every 4 hours because he runs the risk of getting hypoglycemia. This is probably the hardest part of the whole thing. Right before we started the medicine Karsten was sleeping through the night, between 6-8 hours, but now we have to wake him during his peaceful sleep. He absolutely hates it and has a hard time waking up, especially for that 11:00pm feed. Luckily his Daddy and I are a great team and take turns every night. Sometimes we both wake up to hang out and feed him just because we miss him when he sleeps.

We love the quiet family time we get to sneak in at night. I think when he grows up that will be one of the things we miss most, surprisingly.

The medicine is going to help the swelling under the skin. The red marks will go away on their own, hopefully by the time he is one. We have already seen a huge difference and have been happy with the progress that he is making.

They will be increasing his dose here in the next few weeks. We will be going and staying at the hospital for a day while they monitor him to make sure he handles the increase as well as he is handling it now.
He is such a champ and he amazes us all with his strength!

We love those little hemangiomas and will probably miss them when they are gone, but we are happy to see the uncomfortable swelling go down.
