Boarding for Two

We are back at the hospital! But this time I am not a patient. On Sunday morning our doctor asked us if we wanting to start "boarding" at the hospital. Boarding is done when your baby is eating 50% or more of his feeds by mouth. They have you stay at the hospital so that you can be there to feed him every three hours. This is usually done a few days before your baby gets to go home. You can imagine how surprised Ryan and I were to hear that we were ready to board! I may have cried if I wasn't in such shock! I knew Karsten was a rock star, but I never would have imagined us getting ready to take him home at 34 weeks.

Sunday night was the first night that I was able to feed my sweet boy at night. Our room is right upstairs from him so I set my alarm for 10:00pm, 1:00am, 4:00am and 7:00m. Every time it went off I would get excited and rush downstairs. It was so amazing to have that late night bonding with my boy. The last 7 weeks I have only dreamt of the sleepless nights that I would have with my darling. I wanted those nights more than anything and I am one step closer to having those at home with him.

Sunday night was great and he ate 100% of his feeds with no difficulties. Since he did so well the nurses decided to take out his feeding tube. He now has zero tubes on his face!!
He amazes everyone with his strength and determination!

Daddy was even able to feed him his first bottle (he has two bottles a day so that they can add his medicine and extra calories). It was such a sweet experience to see. Karsten has the very best Daddy who also can't wait for our sleepless nights together as a family.
He is a little eating machine! He is growing and we are loving it!
