Happy TWO months my darling boy! I can honestly say, these last two months have been the very best. The very, very best.
Karsten turned two months the day after his surgery. It was a very big day too! He passed his very first hearing test (yay!)
They even decided to let him start "rooming in" with us! Rooming in happens when they are just about to send your baby home. They have the baby stay in your hospital room where you are able to easily do all of their cares while still being monitored.
Ryan and I did everything that we needed to. We watched all three training videos about CPR, carseats and crying babies. We did all of the tests needed and we were so ready to room in and take our baby home. Karsten had to do his carseat test which means he had to sit in his carseat for 90 minutes while continuing to breathe on his own. He passed with no problems!!
We were so excited to have Karsten in the room with us! I was most excited about not having to wake up and walk down the stairs to feed Karsten. This time he would be sleeping right next to me. Karsten got his two month immunizations around 7:00pm. That night after we got him all settled in our room he started acting differently. He slept longer and didn't have an appetite. His diapers were light and sometimes even dry and his weight went down by 30 grams. Let's just say, it didn't go the way we had planned and it didn't go as well as the doctors had planned.
The next morning the team decided that they didn't like where the numbers were and wanted him to stay another night with us. They said that it was normal for a baby to react this way after surgery and their two month immunizations. Honestly, I was happy to be staying another night. I wasn't comfortable with how the night went to be taking him home quite yet.
The second night went perfectly. He ate every 2-3 hours, he woke up without any difficulties and he gained 15 grams! We loved every minute together that night. Ryan and I didn't get much sleep, but most of that was our fault because even when Karsten was sleeping we would hold him and love on him.
We soaked up every little bit of time we had with him.
